THE UTAH HEADLINERS CHAPTER OF SPJ ANNOUNCES 2008 AWARDS
Salt Lake City, June 20, 2008—The Utah Headliners Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists honors outstanding achievement in journalism with this year’s SPJ Utah awards.
Nearly 120 Utah journalists attended this year’s SPJ Utah Headliners 2008 Awards Banquet in the Crimson View at the A. Ray Olpin Student Union Building on the campus of the University of Utah. The awards mark accomplishment in more than 70 categories of work from newspapers, magazines, radio, television, videography, photography and online journalism. The number of submissions to the annual competition has more than doubled in recent years, and as each year passes, the contest becomes more competitive in every category. The SPJ Utah Headliners Awards have become established as the state’s premiere journalism prizes.
SPJ, the nation’s largest journalism organization, promotes the free flow of information vital to a well-informed citizenry; works to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists and protects the First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press. The Utah Headliners Chapter of SPJ, which was founded in 1952, carries out SPJ’s advocacy and educational mission throughout the state of Utah.
